Oldenburg, the coast and the Ammerland region!

Hermes Hotel Oldenburg

Our Oldenburg, the Ammerland and the coast – a worthwhile destination for a day trip.

Oldenburg is located in northern Germany in the federal state of Lower Saxony, not as far from the sea as some might think. Even the occasional seagull from the coast strays to Oldenburg from time to time.

The first beach experience from Oldenburg is probably at Jadebusen in the village of Dangast, just over 30 minutes’ drive from Oldenburg and our hotel. So it’s definitely a destination worth considering, both for a few relaxing moments on the beach in summer or long walks in the autumn and winter months.

While you are there, we recommend a visit to the old spa building. It was built in 1800 and offers views of the Wadden Sea and Jadebusen,” reveals hotel manager Andreas Bäumler.

Sea & Beach – Off to the North Sea

Sea and beach lovers can experience even more of that North Sea feeling on the south beach of Wilhelmshaven or a little further north at places such as Neuhalingersiel, Bensersiel, etc. From Oldenburg, it’s only a stone’s throw away: Wilhelmshaven is just a 40-minute drive away, and Neuhalingersiel is about an hour away. Both North Sea destinations are definitely worth a visit.

Neuhalingersiel, with its charming little town centre, small restaurants, windmills and shops, is a real tourist magnet. Norddeich is not far from Neuhalingersiel. Some ships also depart from here to the North Sea islands.

But it is not only the coast that attracts visitors to our region.

The Ammerland region, with its canals, farms, windmills and, above all, its variety of rhododendrons, is simply a sight to behold. A visit to the Rhododendron Park in Westerstede. The park is a 70-hectare private park founded in 1928 in Westerstede-Linswege/Petersfeld in the Ammerland district of Lower Saxony. Especially when spring arrives, we are impressed anew every year by the beauty of the rhododendron blossoms. Simply wonderful!

The “Park der Gärten” (Park of Gardens) near Bad Zwischenahn is also worth a visit. The Park of Gardens is a permanent garden show and “Germany’s largest model garden complex” in the Rostrup district of the municipality of Bad Zwischenahn.

Oldenburg is definitely a great starting point for a wide variety of excursions. To explore Oldenburg and perhaps one or two other places in the region, we recommend booking one of our packages, which include two or three nights’ accommodation, breakfast and other all-inclusive services.
